Founded in 1979 by engineer Jacques Mahul, Focal has become one of the world's most respected names in high-fidelity audio. Every loudspeaker begins with one objective: reproducing music exactly as the artist intended.

From the very beginning, Focal has designed and manufactured its own loudspeaker drivers in France - an approach that remains rare in the audio industry today. This complete control over engineering and production has enabled decades of continuous innovation and uncompromising quality.

Since 1979, Focal has developed its advanced audio systems within its Saint-Etienne workshops in France. Globally recognized for acoustic expertise, the brand manufactures premium loudspeakers in-house to master every stage of production. This strict commitment to domestic manufacturing ensures that every product delivers exceptional sound performance.

To elevate these systems, the Bourbon-Lancy workshop handles the meticulous hand-crafting of cabinet housings using rare wood species. This artisan expertise and innovative engineering earned Focal the official status of a Living Heritage Company (EPV). It is a prestigious mark highlighting their dedication to unique French traditions.

Focal’s current lineup redefines the concept of luxury hi-fi, seamlessly combining legendary, uncompromising sound quality with the latest wireless technologies. A perfect example of this is the Focal Diva Utopia active speakers, which combine iconic drivers with a beryllium tweeter and an advanced streaming platform developed in collaboration with the British brand Naim Audio.

Meanwhile, for lovers of high-end sound on the go, Focal has created the Bathys wireless headphones. They offer advanced active noise cancellation (ANC), incredible dynamics, and a built-in USB-DAC mode for playing high-resolution digital formats. 1979

Focal was founded in Saint-Étienne by engineer Jacques Mahul to manufacture innovative loudspeaker drivers.

1995

The brand launched the iconic Grande Utopia speaker, which became a global reference in the high-end audio market.

2020

Focal integrated Beryllium inverted dome tweeters into its flagship lines, setting a new standard for high-frequency performance.

2011

Focal merged with Naim Audio to form the Vervent Audio Group, combining French speaker expertise with British electronics.

2016

The company expanded heavily into high-fidelity headphones with the launch of Utopia, redefining portable audiophile sound.

2024

Focal celebrated its 45th anniversary and gained recognition for French craftsmanship by joining the prestigious Comité Colbert.
